UK-based Ford tuning specialist Mountune has announced its first wave of upgrades for the red-hot Ford Focus RS, which is due to arrive in Australia around the middle of this year priced at $50,990.

For now, the range of Mountune parts for the Focus RS (which only began production at the start of the year) is modest, with just seven different upgrades offered. More are planned, however, with Mountune describing the initial lineup as merely being “Phase 1” of its Focus RS tuning program.

In terms of power gains or reduced 0-100km/h times, the company isn’t talking raw numbers just yet. However, with the nature of the available modifications being relatively mild we don’t expect Mountune’s initial round of performance parts to completely transform the Focus RS.

Instead, there are a few driveline enhancements to be had in the form of a Quaife helical front limited slip differential, a reinforced rear engine mount and a short-shift kit for the six-speed manual trans.

Intake restriction is reduced through a high-flow air filter and high flow silicone intercooler hoses, while perhaps the biggest performance upgrade is a set of ultra-light OZ Racing Leggera HLT alloy wheels.

Each wheel is lighter than a standard Focus RS alloy by 2.7kg when fitted with a tyre, reducing unsprung mass and aiding handling, acceleration and braking performance. Each wheel measures 8.5 inches wide by 19 inches in diameter.

The Phase 1 upgrades for the Focus RS are on sale already, however thanks to Ford Australia recent sanctioning of Mountune’s performance parts for the Fiesta ST and Focus ST, there’s potential for Mountune’s Focus RS gear to get official factory backing in Australia as well. Watch this space.
