Suzuki Australia has expanded its Vitara small SUV range with the addition of the Vitara S Turbo, which replaces the previous range-topping Vitara RT-X and introduces a new 103kW/220Nm 1.4 litre turbo engine.
Available exclusively with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the Vitara S Turbo is equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with prices starting at $28,990 for the former and $32,990 for the latter.
Fuel economy for the Vitara S Turbo is actually improved over the base model Vitara RT-S, with the FWD Vitara S Turbo consuming 5.9 l/100km on the combined cycle against the less powerful, naturally-aspirated FWD RT-S automatic’s 6.0 l/100km.
On top of the turbocharged engine, the S Turbo grade also gains a unique grille, black alloy wheels, keyless entry/ignition, front and rear parking sensors, dusk-sensing LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and partial leather/suede upholstery.
And that’s in addition to the Vitara range’s standard equipment list which includes a 7-inch colour touchscreen display with integrated sat-nav, Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth phone/audio integration, climate control, cruise control, reversing camera and power folding mirrors.
The introduction of the Vitara S Turbo expands the Vitara range’s price-footprint slightly, with the top-grade S Turbo AWD costing $1000 more than the now-discontinued RT-X AWD automatic.
There are no pricing changes for the Vitara RT-S.
However, with the arrival of the S Turbo FWD, Suzuki has not only added a fourth model to the range, but has decreased the spend required for buyers to enjoy a higher equipment level than what is already offered by the entry-level RT-S.
