Alfa Romeo has finally completed its Giulia puzzle, showcasing the two models that will sit beneath the performance oriented Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde that was revealed last year.

Offering a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, the new models will wear Giulia and Giulia Super nametags.

Engine options include a pair of 2.2 litre diesel engines rated at 110kW and 132kW, with a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, or a 2.0 litre petrol engine rated at 150kW and paired with an eight-speed automatic only.

Power is taken to the rear wheels, and Alfa Romeo has optimised weight distribution to maintain a 50:50 front-to-rear balance.

Alfa Romeo describes the Giulia as riding on an “exclusive” double wishbone front suspension featuring semi-virtual steering axis while the rear features a 4.5-link suspension with a patented solution for toe adjustment.

Lightweight construction sees the 132kW diesel model tip the scales at just 1374kg (dry) thanks to the use of aluminium and plastic composites in its construction.

The ballistic 380kW 2.9 litre turbocharged V6 Quadrifoglio Verde model weighs in at just 1524kg and features further use of carbon fibre and aluminium in its bodywork.

Depending on the model the Giulia range will offer a 3.5 or 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, offering vital information linked to the vehicle’s DNA drive mode controller.

In the dash of high-end versions an 8.8-inch touchscreen display provides 3D navigation, a rotary controller and voice commands for inputs, and complete compatibility with Apple and Android smartphones and tablets.

A 14 speaker Harman Kardon 5.1 channel Logic 7 will also available.

In Europe the Giulia will offer cloth trim, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control and a 6.5 inch infotainment system as standard. Safety features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and cruise control with speed limiter.

The Giulia Super offers 17-inch alloy wheels, leather and fabric upholstery, with upgraded interior and exterior features.

Optionally a Luxury Pack adds full leather trim with heated electrically adjustable front seats, real wood trim, and Xenon headlights, while a Sports Pack provides a sports steering wheel, aluminium dash and door inserts and Xenon headlights.

In Europe the order books for the new Giulia will open mid-April, however the Giulia range won’t make its way to Australian showrooms until 2017.
