Tesla has announced final sales figures for the 2015 calendar year, with the electric vehicle company bettering 50,000 deliveries worldwide.

A total of 50,580 Teslas were delivered throughout 2015, including 17,400 during the final quarter of the year.

Of those final quarter figures, 17,192 - or 98.8 percent - were Model S deliveries, while the remaining 208 were for the new Model X SUV.

Tesla actually built 507 Model Xs during Q4 last year, but some are scheduled for delivery during Q1 of the new year.

The carmaker said these figures reflect its expectations for the Model X’s earliest days on the market, and that mass production will take a back seat to quality for now.

That said, Tesla also announced that Model X production has been slowly ramping up as quality control becomes more reliable, and 238 Model Xs were built during the final week of 2015.

The Model S goes from strength-to-strength, with Q4 2015 deliveries around 48 percent higher than the previous quarterly record and around 75 percent higher than Q4 2014.

In line with company policy, Tesla has not revealed its total sales for the Model S in Australia during 2015 for its first full year on the local market.

The Model X is scheduled to join the Model S in Australia during the second half of this year.
