The slow reveal of Volkswagen’s latest concept, to be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in a Las Vegas in just a few days time, now has a name - not officially at least, but as the next step in a slow teaser campaign.

Posted to the company’s twitter account (but since removed) is a closely cropped image of the vehicle’s rear, giving a clear look at the LED-intensive tail-light cluster and the BUDD.e badge that will spread from side-to-side across the vehicle’s tailgate.

Although it’s a little out of focus, if you squint you’ll see the letter B to the left, followed by U-D-D then an interpunct and a lowercase e. While the name itself isn’t rich in history within Volkswagen it does make an interesting play on the name of the previous Bulli concept.

Despite first being shown in 2011, the Bulli also featured a fully electric powertrain, with a 300 kilometre range. Volkswagen describes the BUDD.e as "the beginning of a new era of affordable long-distance electromobility" - meaning a likely boost to the new vehicle’s touring range.

Other details of the BUDD.e are still to be revealed, but its unveiling as part of CES provides a pointer as to Volkswagen’s next-generation of connectivity technology.

With just a few more days to go before the official opening of CES, there won’t be long to wait to find out exactly what Volkswagen has in store.
