Stig Snapped Ahead Of Top Gear Australia Debut

Some say his helmet is actually for your protection and that... Oh my God, he's in Australia! That's right, The Stig has been caught at Camden Airport in New South Wales filming for the upcoming release of Top Gear. Could this be our new test track perhaps?

To add to the buzz, our very own tamed racing driver was piloting one of only two RHD Ford GT40s in the world; word on the street is that the GT40 is "awesome" at full noise. Fingers crossed the local version, soon to debut on SBS, is every bit as excellent as what we've come to expect from the 'Clarkson mob'.

      Stig in the UK is possibly Jackie IXXE who was once Allan Moffitt's winning co-driver at Bathurst.
      Allan Grice could perform the role, or maybe Colin Bond (another co-driver for Allan Moffitt. Regards,Rick

    Awsome! The main guy is anoying like Clarkson (hopefully he'll grow on us in time and lose the pommy accent), the cartoonist represents us like James, and the youngun is a nut like the hampster. This could work!!! But who is our Stig?? Not available on the net yet...

      im picking that Fat Stig is one of the V8 supercar drivers like Jimmy Richards or who ever is providing the car to be tested's, test driver.

    Um I noticed that Stig has put in a bit of wieght in his trip over. too much 1st class food.......maybe

    But I think Aussie Stig should be called "Fat Stig"

    Hey Adam you were wrong the aussie Top Gear is crap Steve's ok but the other two are crap as for the Stig i reckin it's Ian Luff top driver perfect for the job !!!

      You obviously have no appreciation for difference of culture, the aussie top gear is perfectly suited to it's audience and i for one love it, it takes a while to accept but it trully is a piece of aussie magic. Maybe you will grow to appreciate the difference in due time, like i and many others have.

    I've got pretty good authority on who the Aussie Stig is....It's VERY strong chance it's Rick Bates!!!!! (rally driver related to Neal, and has driven Pirtek Focus among other things...have very close to him testing when he was with Focus Rally team).

    Two things point to this:
    1) I personally know the person who fitted Rick Bateswith his Unique Alpine Stars "Stig Suit" in Aus, and who had free tickets to the premiere show.. (Rick may be one of several Stigs as pointed out above)
    2) Rick has PERSONALLY picked up cars from both Lotus Australia & Mececedes Benz Australia, both coinciding with filming & testing of those cars, and him uttering the words "i'm here to pick up the car for Top gear". There is also fair evidence he picked up & was the driver of the MAybach in the forst or 2nd episode.

    I think we have seen a change in Stiggy between 1st 2 episodes and latest ones.....i think a lot of the ealrly driving was done by annoying Steve (hamster impersonator)..check out the hunched over, close to the wheel styles of both steve & stig....this has gone in the last 2 episodes.

    Can't guarantee exactly, but have pretty good no BS evidence above, plus Rick is featured heavily in TGA magazine in the driving articles......

    Would love further evidence to confirm my compiled info!!!!

      Comment by SportsCarRacer: wow, if all you say is true, then there is no doubt the Stig is Bates!! But my sources have suggested it is a certain J. Courtney. He regularly makes trips to Sydney from the GC as of late, on the premise of being in the TopGear show. However, we still have not seen him as a guest! So thats my theory..

    Having watched TG for years I tune din with great expectation when the local brand debuted last year. Lasted 3 episodes before I couldn't stand that clown with the gravelly voice any more.
    Tuned in again last week for episode 1 with James Morrison in replacement. A bit better but too cringeingly "Aussie". The English version is witty, funny and the characters warm and endearing to viewers. The locals lack all those qualities; it is like watching "The Castle" or Barry Mackenzie.and putting it up as world class cinema - not good.

    Check the body to leg ratio of Australian Stig. Longish legs, shorter body, then check out.....
