Mazda Divides 6, Gets 2010 Mazda3

If you’re ready to believe UK publication Auto Express, the above is the new Mazda3.

Let’s skip to the meat of it, shall we?  Word is that an aggressive-looking MPS version of the new 3 is definitely on the cards, into which Mazda is expected to shovel the 5-cylinder turbo from the Ford Focus XR5, offering in the vicinity of 190kW.

Folks, I’m a believer.

Based on the Ford Focus and with the skilled hands of the crew behind the MX-5 to set it right, the new Mazda3 is likely to see power ranging from 1.4 litre to 2.0 litre petrol engines, as well as a couple of diesel options in the shape of 1.6 and a 2.2 litre units.

Visually, the 2010 Mazda3 really is a treat, and ought to ensure the continuing success of the 3’s performance on the showroom floors.  Mazda’s famed Nagare design language is well at home here, with the same sharply-styled headlights and outspoken flared guards of the 6 making of the strongest points of the new design.  Combined with a wide-open grille and swept-back air-intakes to the sides of the front bar, the new 3 has “willing accomplice” all over it.

Unlike the previous 3, Auto Express say we can expect to find soft-touch plastics in the Mazda6-inspired interior.  Getting on the enviro-bandwagon, the new 3 will be built from a selection of biodegradable materials, making it that much more chummy with the tree-huggers.

I’d buy that.

Yeah I’d buy it, but I’m in the market for a new car end of this year, not ‘10 :( The only downfall of the current 3 MPS is the styling is a bit bland and lack of 6 speed auto / dual clutch transmission, otherwise the MPS (and 6) is a magical car

I love it.

Personal tastes allowing, I think it’s even better looking, purposeful, and more aggressive than the new 6.

Here’s hoping they tune the suspension right and give it a slick 6 speeder.

Oh, and an LSD for the MPS and (wishful thinking) the SP23 replacement?

Its a shame that it will probably still be wrong wheel drive

I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!
