With more and more manufacturers vying for ‘Ring supremacy, an Audi insider has reportedly claimed that the new R8, featuring V10 motivation, will best the blisteringly fast 7:26 lap time set by the Corvette ZR1 in June this year.
Given the ZR1 has managed to lay waste to such contenders as the Pagani Zonda, the Porsche GT2 and even the new Nissan GT-R, this is no small claim.
With the V-Spec looming in the background the R8 will need to put down a serious time if Audi plans to hold the title for more than a fleeting second.
Expect to hear more as we near the anticipated unveiling of the production spec R8 V10 at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October.

This car looks amazing. I saw a white one (obviously not the V10) the other day on the freeway and I couldn’t take my eyes off it! Finally its getting the grunt to match the looks.
Hopefully it doesn’t set fire to the car, like the turbo prototypes did.
