Earlier this week, Triumph announced a new, higher-specification version of their Street Triple - the 2009 Street Triple R. The R adds a swag of attitude and in Triumph’s own words “is not a bike for shrinking violets…”
The new Street Triple R is packed with race track technology. Fully-adjustable 41mm USD forks and a top-spec rear monoshock unit with piggy back reservoir deliver on the handling front, while radially mounted four-piston calipers and twin 308mm brake discs help to keep R riders out of the bushes.
At the heart of Street Triple R is the Street Triple’s fuel-injected 675cc three-cylinder engine, producing 108ps at 11,700rpm. The R’s fully adjustable sports suspension and powerful four-piston radial brakes are derived from Triumph’s Daytona 675.
Triumph has designed the Street Triple R to rival traditional Supersport machines in performance while offering the comfort and attitude of a streetfighter.
The sporty feel is completed with wide, tapered aluminium handlebars from Magura and a 5mm taller seat height that puts the Street Triple R rider in the perfect position to attack winding mountain passes and keep out of trouble on city streets.
The result is a motorcycle that can be finely tuned for all road and track conditions, offering a plush ride tailored to the individual rider, while bearing more than a passing resemblance to its bigger brother, the Speed Triple.
The Street Triple R is available in two all-new exclusive colour schemes: Matt Graphite with orange graphics and Matt Blazing Orange with grey graphics. Both colour options are further enhanced by black anodised forks and a two-tone black and graphite seat.
Australian pricing and availability have not yet been announced.

I own a street triple and am very happy with it however to get me to trade up Triumph really needed to incorporate the full spec daytona engine with more racey power spread. As an “R spec” I was expecting not only better handling but a little extra top end grunt..
Oi ad a go oi’ one o dem sweet nipples, foik do dey go orwat? Not bad fora itsee bitsee in betweenie, haz noice lots o caracter 2 but loik ole Billy if oi had to trade up from me combine arvester well I’d be a pickle short of a plow mans lunch cause it dont tow that well, an I got a caravan, so I dont know wat al da fuss is aboot?
Dear Barty, yes I am inclined to agree that towing is not a forte’ of the speed triple, what you need my man is a Honduras Golden-wing, which in itself is like having a living room settee strapped to your backside, and it corners like one too. Quite a diffent experience I should say from the John Deerey me I understand you get about in what?
That’s typical male chauvinism if you ask me, I remember when caravans were the domain of middle aged, hetero sexual god fearing, iconoclastic, nonconformists, who were totally devoid of MasterCard payments, and green shield stamps, those were the days; when money was taboo, and advice was few and far between. Not like today, what with same sex ritualistic commercialism and consumer based religion brought about by real life TV and Oliver Jameses pan handling to the nmasses, what is one to think?
My wife has plenty of top end grunt, especially when she is putting out the bins on Monday evening, and on Thursdays after strip bingo, when she is winning, (or is that losing?) Oh yes the top end is full of grunt these days just ask the clergy they will confirm what I have always known as a self fulfilling prophecy, a maxim upon which to live our lives upon, The gruntiest locale’ a la Australie’ mon ami is indeed the Top End, why else would thety invite so many tourists each year? Perhaps the street triple will get you there post haste, but its not the journey is it, its the style in which you arrive thats important!
this bike is great to ride,it sounds even better like mad maxs interceptor, like its blown, but with the induction sound of the good old aussie xu-1 torana, now i wanna buy ,but which colour?
