Triumph has freshened up its Bonneville range for the 2009 model year just in time for the 50th anniversary of the iconic model. The original Bonneville was launched to critical acclaim for the 1959 model year and has been regarded by many as the definitive Triumph model ever since.

Taking their inspiration from the 1970s, the Bonneville has received what Triumph refer to as “a significant update” for the coming year that includes a new variant - the Bonneville SE. Both models feature authentic 1970s styling, plus a host of chassis changes aimed at making the bikes easier to ride than before and giving them an even wider appeal.

Visually, the most striking difference comes with the new 17-inch cast alloy wheels at the front and rear, shorter mudguards and stylish megaphone silencers from the sporty Thruxton. The new seat proudly displays the Triumph logo, which is now printed in white.

The handlebars have been revised and are now closer to the rider and seat height has been reduced by 25mm to improve the riding position. The introduction of a smaller, lighter, front wheel makes it easier to maneuver the Bonneville. For those looking to carry a few personal belongings, there is now an optional rear rack that is a new addition to the official Triumph accessories list. Complementing the clean lines are classic black or white colour options.

The higher-specification Bonneville SE includes a swag of extras over the standard Bonneville, including a tacho, chromed tank badges and brushed alloy engine casings. The SE is available in a choice of solid Jet Black or a classic two-tone livery combining the dark Pacific Blue with Fusion White.

Riders looking for a 1960s style Bonneville are catered for with the wire-wheeled T100 model, which has been updated with some minor detail changes for 2009. The retro classic gets new handlebar clamps, restyled footrests, black clock surrounds and a white Triumph logo on the seat, while fork gaiters, previously available as an optional extra, come as standard.

A limited-edition run of 650 50th Anniversary Bonnevilles, based on the T100, are also being introduced. These feature a higher specification and a unique orange and blue colour scheme based on the 1959 original.

A comprehensive range of official accessories is also available for the complete Bonneville family. These include a new quick release screen and performance exhaust systems developed in conjunction with Arrow Special Parts.

Australian pricing and availability on the 2009 Bonneville range has not yet been released.
