2015 Falcon Sedan: Ford Trots Out Tail-light Teaser

Mike Stevens | Jul 15, 2014

Ford has released a second new teaser image for its upcoming 2015 Falcon update, following a first telling image that appeared last week.

This new image marks the first official look at the ‘new’ sedan’s back-end, and it is clear that significant styling changes will feature.

Although tightly cropped, this photo reveals that the Falcon sedan’s tail-lights have been completely re-styled.

Replacing the tall units of the current ‘FG’ model, the rear lights of the ‘FH’ Falcon have taken on an elongated design that reaches into the tailgate.

A chrome garnish can be seen, running through the centre of the boot lid and joining the lights at the clear portion of the lens.

It is unclear if LED lighting will feature in this new design, although there appears to be LED strips running along the top of the lens.

This new image also hints at a shorter bevel along the edge of the boot lid, pointing to a redesigned deck and rear quarter shape.

Last week, Ford released a similarly cropped teaser of the new sedan’s headlights, revealing an angular new lens design and a sharpened bonnet.

This forms part of an expected styling overhaul for the new Falcon, promised to be the most extensive mid-life redesign the badge has ever seen.

Unfortunately, with Ford Australia production set to wind up in 2016, this will be more of an end-of-life upgrade.

We can expect a significant one, though, with new technologies and the return of the fan-favourite XR8 badge among the promised changes.

These latest images from Ford are highlighting the head and tail lights.
But what they are not saying is that they are also the sourcing these same lights from overseas suppliers for the first time in 20 years.

Yes, it's a sad fact of reallity that, with Holden more or less abandoning many local suppliers years ago, that Ford leaving has started the true wind down of the local supplier industry - the capability just won't be there any more.

Holden have sourced tail lights and headlights from OS for over a decade for the commodore. In fact with the amount of chinese and south korean sourced parts used in the commodore it really should have a assembled in aust from imported and local parts sticker on it.

So this nip & tuck is looking more comprehensive than we first thought. If they are going to the effort of changing the rear quarter panels, this be pretty major.
I'm not banking on new doors, but you never know.

Door skins will happen, but not frames.
Glasshouse is about the only exterior NOT to change.

These new teaser photos seems to indicate the new Falcon will closely resemble the Taurus.

Have you really looked at the tail of the Taurus?
      Looks nothing like this.

I should have clarified that I was referring more to the front headlamp and part grill teaser shown earlier. Seems similar to the current model Ford Taurus (not the new 2015 model) or the new Ford Mondeo.

These tail lights look like they've been lifted directly from the New Escort (developed by FordOz for developing markets) literally identical!!
So will the last ever Falcon look like an XL version of the Escort???

the Escort looks really good, so that''s a good omen!

Why put this much effort into a redesign when it won't last for more than 2 years?

If only they did that 10-15 years ago when the car was actually relevant and selling well, it may be a different story today.
