Lexus RCF Teased Ahead Of Detroit

LEXUS RCF COUPE

Lexus has released a second new teaser image for its next F model, long expected to debut as the new RC F coupe.

Last month's unveiling of the new RC coupe brought that moment closer to reality, and earlier spy photos of an enhanced coupe offered a first telling look.

Now, this second teaser brings another glimpse of the new model, showcasing a prominent scoop in the coupe's bonnet.

The earlier teaser image, released this month, revealed the familiar Lexus F badge and mica blue finish, along with a pair of telltale features.

A big new alloy wheel design fills out the coupe's front guard in this tightly cropped shot, sitting in front of a much taller and deeper vent than that worn by the current IS F sedan.

A hint of the RC F's unique front bumper can also be seen here, with a small serve of mesh grille appearing in the left corner.

Lexus has offered little else for now, although TMR's recent spy photos reveal the new front bumper, massively flared guards, an active rear spoiler and the stacked Lexus F exhaust pipes.

The carmaker says the new F model was designed "from the asphalt up, to strike at the heart" and deliver a "bold and gritty experience".

The RC F will reportedly be powered by an enhanced version of the 5.0 litre V8 driving the current IS F, upgraded from 311kW and 505Nm to a solid 340kW and 545Nm.

Speaking with TMR in July, IS engineering boss Junichi Furuyama noted that extracting more power from the 5.0 litre V8 would be difficult without breaching Euro VI emissions requirements - but it seems Lexus has found a way.

Lexus is definitely gunning for the BMW M4 twin-turbo in-line 6 with nearly the same kilowatt and torque outputs.

Even with the camo-wall paper, the car looks tops!

Can't wait to see this. Now all we need is Audi to bring out the A3 coupe in the style of the A5 (and S5, RS5) to give us the brand options in this category.
