New Aeromobil Flying Cars Take To The Skies: Video

Trevor Collett | Nov 5, 2013

The flying 'car' may eventually become reality, but most of the efforts of the last 60 years have been somewhat impractical, expensive... or both.

Two new prototypes from Slovakia have now emerged that may be closer to the mark than previous efforts however, called the Aeromobil 2.5 and 3.0.

The Aeromobil 2.5 is a pre-production prototype which has already taken to the skies, with a successful test flight earlier this year seeing it glide above the runway.

In car mode, the Aeromobil seems practical enough, with a top speed of over 160km/h and a fuel range of 500km, achieved at 7.5 l/100km.

Operated as an aeroplane, from a minimum flying speed of 60km/h the Aeromobil can hit 200km/h with a take-off speed of 130 km/h. The range improves to 700km in the air, with the car using 15 litres of fuel per hour while flying.

While in car-mode, the Aeromobil has the wings folded 'beetle' style behind the cabin. An improvement over rather more odd-looking efforts like the Terrafugia Transition (below).

The two-seater design in car-mode is 6000mm long and 1600mm wide, weighing in at just 450kg. The wing-span in flying-mode is 8200mm.

Pricing is unknown, assuming it ever eventuates. The Aeromobil 3.0 is the next chapter in the story, which is yet to undertake a test flight.

The best looking and easily the most practical (based on what is shown in the video) flying car I've seen to date.

Now if only they can design it with a Flux Capacitor...

These in history are USELESS as a car, and just as useless as a plane, you CANNOT have both and expect either to shine. smile

Just buy a BlackShape Prime, best light-sports-plane on the planet smile
