As you may have noticed, most of the TMR team are big fans of the new Nissan GT-R. Every tidbit of information is lovingly posted, and plenty of discussion occurs afterwards.
Of course, in the automotive journalism world its arguable that no car is truly reviewed until Top Gear gets their hands on one, and puts it through its paces. Jeremy Clarkson has previously let slip what the competitors would be and, come Sunday, the GT-R will finally have made it.
From Clarkson’s blog on the Top Gear web site, this weekend’s episode (on UK television, that is) will feature an epic race between the GT-R and the other Japanese speed icon, the Shinkansen bullet train.
On Sunday night, there is a race between a Nissan GT-R and a bullet train right the way across Japan.
It is extremely exciting. I think the best film we’ve ever made.
I hope you enjoy the race across Japan. And now you know it’s all for real, every ball breaking moment of it, I hope you enjoy it even more.
As a fan of both the GT-R and public transport that works, I don’t know who to support. Both my head and my heart are torn between the two. I think I’m rooting for the GT-R though, and I can’t wait until The Stig gets to chuck one around the Top Gear Test Track.

Wicked, being Australia and the pathetic free-to-air tv delays for programming, might be a while before we see the episode
Any idea if the GT-R in this top gear test is the V-Spec one?
In recent years it’s been said that humility is a virtue we Americans could learn to appreciate. That is why I would just like to take this opportunity to say…
WHOOOT! I called it, motherf’ers! I called it like a mating elephant!

Yeah! How do you like THEM apples?
Its the regular GT-R. The V-Spec isn’t due for unveiling until the Paris Motor Show, if I remember correctly.
I don’t believe its just Australia’s pathetic free-to-air TV responsible for the delay either. Anyone but the UK gets a different, “International” version of Top Gear from BBC International’s licensing team. This is what we see on SBS, and it contains edits. Normally its the news, which is very local, cut or sometimes soundtrack songs are changed.
Once again I’m working off a very hazy memory based on a single aside in a news article / Andy Wilman blog post I read a while ago (I don’t even remember which) but I think it takes a while for the BBC to release that International version to market.
I could be wrong, though.
Now there’s a visual I just didn’t need.
Just seen the episode and it is quite good, although being a GT-R fan, I didn’t think there was enough said about the car.
Jeremy did mention that they will do a track feature of the car later in the series though. Episode 4 is just based around the race with the Bullet train.
You can download it from Finalgear.com.
Just you all wait until Japan Rail releases the new Spec-V Shinkansen. I hear its dining carriage is constructed entirely of dry carbon-fibre.
