Subaru has introduced what it says will be the last limited-edition model in the current WRX range. Fittingly, the special model comes as a tribute to the WRX's legendary rally record.
Arriving 20 years after the first WRX went on sale in Japan, the new RS40 model also celebrates Subaru Australia's 40th anniversary.
Subaru says it has packed more than $7000 of value into the $44,490 WRX RS40, showcasing the iconic rally colour combo of a WR Blue body on 17-inch gold wheels.
“WR Blue remains a customer favourite colour in the WRX palette, so it’s entirely fitting that this last-in-line special edition of the current car carries the famous blue and gold combination," Subaru Australia boss Nick Senior said.
There's also a number of STI components, including spoilers at both ends, an STI short-shift gear assembly and an STI flexible tower strut brace.
The cabin scores Recaro seats with blue Alcantara highlights and a numbered RS40 badge. There's also RS40 badging on the exterior.
The WRX RS40 is only available in sedan and is limited to 300 units, all in WR Blue Mica paint. It's available for pre-order now and will be in showrooms from the end of August.
What's next? The all-new WRX, of course, which TMR's spy photos reveal is well into the final stages of development. Get all the details here.
