2014 Toyota Corolla Sedan Revealed For Australia, On Sale Next Year

TMR Team | Jun 7, 2013

Big day for Toyota, big day for the Corolla.

The carmaker has now unveiled its new Australian-market Corolla sedan, mere hours since the US market's version debuted in California.

And, as expected, the new 11th-generation model we'll see in Australia early next year will wear a design shared with European markets, separate to the model destined for America.

While much of the new Corolla's body is identical to the US version, the Australian and European Corolla gets a larger headlight and grille design, a different front bumper and larger tail-lights.

In this way, the new sedan adopts the same sharp new lines and tight angles worn by its hatch sibling, along with the new Camry and RAV4 models.

Toyota is quick to point out, however, that both versions of the new Corolla share characteristics drawn from the Furia concept, shown in Detroit earlier this year.

Technical details for the Australia-bound sedan are still to be revealed, but there's little secrecy here: expect the same 103kW 1.8 litre petrol engine that drives the hatch, along with six-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission.

The new Corolla sedan will be built in 16 countries - could Australia be among them? Toyota is understood to be finalising plans for adding a third model to its Australian production program, joining the Camry and Aurion sedans.

(Of course, the new RAV4 may be more likely, sharing its 2.5 litre petrol engine and many components with the Camry sedan.)

The Corolla is also now Australia's best selling car, surpassing the Mazda3 this month in year-to-date sales. (See our New Car Sales article here.)

The new Corolla Sedan is due to go on sale in Australia in the first half of 2014, with specific timing and specifications to be confirmed closer to the launch date.

Yeah I agree. It's not great, but I can't really pick anything too wrong with it. Much better than the Hatch.

I dunno yet if I like this one, but to say the US one looks better... far out. Well, each to their own!

Ten years? The ZR engine replaced the ZZ in the Australian delivered Corolla in 2007.

What were you expecting anyway, a Wankel rotary?

As usual any interior colour as long as it's black.
This is a hot country and I am fed up with being offered a vehicle that is like driving around in a coal mine inside. Depressing hot and small looking
All high end cars offer a light color interior. It doesn't cost any more to offer a light colour variation. The buyer orders the car and it gets produced no big deal but they don't care. Or are they afraid if they offer a light colour buyers wont buy an Aurion which does offer a light colour. Wake up guys and give the customer a choice not what you say we can have.

Having worked for the Toyota for such a long time I must say they are the most conservative car manufacturer there is.
The RAV-4 and this Corolla look S**T.
    What a disgusting looking thing.

i love the 2011-2013 Corolla the best. this new one is butt ugly. As with most of the new cars these days are just ugly and full of plastic. sick of dark coloured interior in small/medium cars just horrible in hot summer climate of Australia. I will say this is the ugliest corolla i ever saw. In fact most small/medium cars are made ugly and the large cars are made half decent.

Absolutely hopeless design. The front panel appears to be falling off. I have driven toyoda all life, but this time no more - need to change.
Today's best design car is Holden.
Kome on toyoda you need to present something better to capture back the market almost lost !!

OMG so ugly. More ugly then USA version.

The current 2013 model corolla is the best looking model ever I love it. Why did they have to ruin it so quickly.

Half the Toyota designers should be sacked.

I'm actually the biggest corolla fanboy around buy I tell people only a few of the hatches look nice.
My first car was a KE10 and that was better looking than this new model. I now drive a ae92 hatch and it's one of the sexiest models of corolla.

Toyota should only copy VW. Not ugly Honda. I hate Honda.
