Toyota has updated its retro-styled FJ Cruiser for 2013, adding a larger fuel sub-tank for greater driving range, along with the CRAWL off-road cruise control system.
Joining the existing 72 litre main fuel tank, Toyota says the new 87 litre sub-tank increases the FJ's theoretical driving range to 1060km in city driving, or more than 1700km on the highway.
Combined fuel consumption figures for the FJ's 200kW/380Nm 4.0 litre petrol V6 are listed at 11.4 l/100km, suggesting a notional driving range of nearly 1400km.
In week-long city and freeway testing, The Motor Report achieved a best fuel average of 12.9 l/100km.
Along with the increased fuel capacity, Toyota has blessed the FJ with its CRAWL system. Designed to assist drivers navigating tricky terrain, CRAWL is a 'feet-off' control system that operates in low-range and replaces Downhill Assist Control.
The system engages in low-range and temporarily cuts out at speeds above 25km/h - over above 10km/h when the rear differential is locked.
A speed selector dial offers a choice of five speeds, maintaining that speed in uphill and downhill driving by controlling engine output and brake hydraulic pressure.
The FJ also cops a price increase for 2013, from $46,490 to $47,990 (plus on-roads). The FJ launched in 2011 at $44,990.
FJ Cruiser is covered by Toyota Service Advantage capped-price servicing at a maximum of $210 per service.

Everyone is so hooked on diesel!!! Yes i is good but u need to way it up some times. Think if this was diesel it would be worth $3-5k more plus more in servicing. And for what 9lt/100km. Petrol is still great on the sand!!

And the preimum you would pay for a diesel you would make up on fuel costs. That's why I decided on a Diesel hilux, rated about 9.5L per hundred compared to 13.5L/ph or the V6 Petrol

Im not saying unleaded is always the way to go.
Look at this link for example

Like i said it depends on what u are buying and what ur use of the vehicle is.
I would not wast my money on small cars/SUV's with diesels.

If the FJ is a shortened prado chassis and you can get both petrol and diesel prados (not to mention auto and manual), then why not FJ?
As for a 6 speed, just show some balls Toyo and through a 9speed at it and beat VW to the punch...
