2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Due Mid-year With $1000 Price Hike

Tony O'Kane | Feb 16, 2013

Despite launching just last October, the high-performance SRT8 variant of Jeep’s best-selling Grand Cherokee range will get its first facelift in the middle of this year.

Besides revised styling, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 also gets a comprehensive update to its driveline, as well as enhanced equipment levels.

New orders of the current Grand Cherokee have around a ten-month wait on delivery, and demand has been so strong that even the CEO and Managing Director of Fiat Chrysler Australia, Clyde Campbell, has been unable to get his hands on one.

“I wish I could get another 1000 cars,” Mr Campbell told TMR.

The Grand Cherokee SRT8’s big interior, monstrous 344kW 6.4 litre V8, prodigious performance and generous standard equipment levels have made it a winner for Jeep locally, with demand for the SRT8 far outstripping supply.

At $76,000, the Grand Cherokee SRT is an absolute performance bargain, offering performance that rivals hi-po SUVs from BMW and Mercedes-Benz at roughly half the price.

The value equation will get better from mid-year when the facelifted SRT8 arrives, bringing with it an eight-speed transmission, 8.4-inch entertainment display and revised exterior styling.

The new eight-speed will dramatically improve performance too, not to mention refinement.

Mr Campbell says that with the eight-speeder’s new launch control facility, the 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8 is capable of rocketing to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds.

Due to the extra technology that will be offered, Mr Campbell said that an extra $1000 will need to be added to the SRT8’s retail price, bringing it up to $77,000 before on-road costs.

Expect to hear more about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 toward the middle of this year.

    "If i had the Jeep!"

Looks even better now, and small price to pay for the extra gear

I just wonder if Ford made a Territory with FPV Typhoon running gear and better performance/power than this Jeep if it would sell?

      Hi MR,

At this stage it's unclear if the Summit variant will join the local Grand Cherokee range, whether as an additional model or as a replacement for the Overland.

We'll have a better idea the closer we get to the MY14 Grand Cherokee's launch, so stay tuned!

Tony, I would really like to encourage you to do all you can to get the Summit here, I am after a Deep Cherry Red and want the 3 liter Turbo Diesel, I would rather buy the Summit than pay extra for an ML350.

        Please push hard!

        Thank you,

        Joseph Rau

I read a lot of negative comments about the updated Grand Cherokees looks. I actually think imo that the new looks works so much better in SRT trim
