Chevrolet has at last revealed its all-new Corvette in Detroit this week, bringing a new platform, a new look, and the return of an old favourite badge.
These new images and details offer the first official look at the 2013 Corvette - although leaked images and spy photos in the past year have left few surprises.
For Chevrolet, the new Corvette marks a push to return the big coupe to the dreams of young men and the poster space of Nissan GT-R loving adolescents.
Reviving the famed Stingray name also means Chevrolet isn't playing 'silly buggers' - and with a big new powerhouse of an engine, it could soon have a host of new fans.
Motivation for the 2013 Corvette is provided by GM's new Gen5 LT1 V8, producing "an estimated" 335kW and 610Nm.
The engine is matched to a seven-speed manual transmission (911, please state the nature of your emergency - Ed), which also offers an Active Rev Matching system.
A 0-100km/h time of under 4.0 seconds is also promised, bettering the 4.2 time of the current model.
Handling is also a focus for the new model, with Chevrolet working to bring the 2013 Corvette closer to the Nurburgring-eating performance of the C6 Corvette ZR1.
“Stingray is one of the hallowed names in automotive history,” GM's Ed Welburn said. “We knew we couldn’t use the Stingray name unless the new car truly lived up to the legacy.
"The result is a new Corvette Stingray that breaks from tradition, while remaining instantly recognizable as a Corvette the world over.”
There's a brand-new aluminium frame under the new-look Corvette, designed to deliver a 50/50 weight distribution. There's also "carbon-nano" composite panels, including the doors, quarter panels, and parts of the underbody.
Upgrade to the Z51 Performance Package and there's an electronic limited-slip differential, a dry-sump oiling system and an improved differential and transmission cooling system.
Even in the regular model, there's a five-setting Drive Mode Selector that enhances 12 elements of the car's setup to suit the environment and driver demand.
The new Corvette Stingray will be built at GM’s Kentucky plant, which underwent a $131-million upgrade - including approximately $52 million for a new body shop to manufacture the aluminum frame in-house for the first time.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the US later this year. Will we see it here? Well, you can help, but as always, you'd best not hold your breath.

I'm sure though it's the Camaro tail lamps that's going to get a lot of negative flack. It doesn't look too bad but does take away the trademark twin circular lamps people are most used to.
Also now it's a proper fastback design instead of a glass canopy hatch.

Not what I'd call "instantly recognisable as a Corvette" though.
