The production version of Renault’s 2011 Captur crossover concept has been previewed this week, thanks to leaked technical drawings of the all-new model.

Expected to replace the slow-selling Modus minivan in Europe, the new model is likely to be based heavily on the 2012 Clio light car, and targeted directly at the likes of Nissan’s Juke crossover.

The leaked drawings suggest the model will feature Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker's new styling language, but eschews the Captur’s hunched profile and muscular flanks for a more conventional five-door hatchback profile.

Renault is yet to confirm the model as a Modus replacement, but comparing the Modus’ expected 2012 volume of 33,000 units to the similarly sized Nissan Juke’s 106,000 2011 total paints a predictable picture.

The French carmaker is far from alone in developing a Juke rival, with the upcoming Opel Mokka/Holden Trax, Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008, and Honda’s Jazz-based crossover all lining up to compete.

Renault’s contender is expected to make its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in March, before going on sale in Europe before the end of the year.
