UPDATE - July 1 2013: Ford Australia has confirmed a September debut for the Fiesta ST.
While a decision on the three-door model's local potential is still to be made, the five-door shown here will hit Australia early in 2013.
As with the its three-door counterpart, the five-door model gets a large Focus ST-inspired mesh grille, flanked by a long bottom grille and foglight bezels.
There's also low-slung side skirts, a hatch-top spoiler and a rear diffuser with a pair of exhaust tips poking through.
Both versions of the Fiesta ST are powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged Ecoboost four-cylinder engine, producing 132kW and 240Nm, with a 0-100km/h time under the seven-second mark.
Unlike its primary rival, Volkswagen's Polo GTI - which offers only a seven-speed DSG automatic - the Fiesta ST will be equipped exclusively with a six-speed manual shifter.
The ST is 15mm lower than the standard Fiesta and features the trick Torque Vectoring system (as seen on the Focus) and three electronic stability modes.
Watch for more details on the Fiesta ST's Australian debut.
