Mercedes has confirmed its new CLA four-door coupe will debut at January's Detroit Auto Show, revealing the production look of the recent Style concept.

Later in the year, the flagship CLA 45 AMG will bow at the Frankfurt Motor Show, debuting as the latest offering in a slew of new AMG-enhanced models.

Power for the CLA 45 AMG will likely come from the same 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that will star in the A 45 AMG hatch, producing upwards of 245kW and 400Nm.

The CLA 45 AMG will likely also get the same all-wheel-drive system bound for the hatch, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The AMG-tuned sedan will give Mercedes an advantage in its battle with rivals BMW and Audi, which offer only hatch models in the segment: the 235kW M135i and the 250kW RS 3.

In the regular CLA, engine options will likely again mirror the A-Class, including a 90kW CLA 180 and 115kW CLA 200, both powered by turbo 1.6 petrol engine.

A sub-AMG range-topper in the CLA 250 is also likely, its 2.0 litre turbo engine producing 155kW and 350Nm of torque.

Watch for more details in the coming weeks.
