2013 Opel Astra OPC Australian Pricing Announced In Sydney

OPEL ASTRA OPC: SYDNEY MOTOR SHOW 2012

Opel Australia has revealed today that its hot Astra OPC hatch will hit the Australian market at $42,990 when it arrives in February.

The news follows confirmation earlier this month of the flagship Astra's return to Australia - it sold here previously under the Holden and HSV banners.

The Astra OPC will sit above the existing GTC model, with a 2.0 litre turbo four delivering 206kW/400Nm, promising a proper performance advantage over the GTC’s 132kW/230Nm 1.6 litre turbo.

Opel promises a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.0 seconds, pitting the OPC against the likes of the Volkswagen Scirocco R and Renault Megane RS 265.

Also aligning OPC with such esteemed rivals is a more extroverted styling and interior package that closely silhouettes Opel’s 2010 GTC Paris concept.

As with the production GTC, Astra OPC uses Opel’s HiPerStrut front suspension design, but adds FlexRide multi-mode dampers, a mechanical LSD and Brembo brakes to help deal with the 2.0 litre’s performance.

The Astra OPC has been subjected to a tortuous 10,000km testing program on the 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife, but Opel is making no mention of an official lap time.

In Australia, the Astra OPC will be offered with three option packs: Opel’s AFL+, a premium forward-lighting pack priced at $2000, unique 20-inch alloy wheels for $1000 and Opel’s premium paint priced at $695.

I'm surprised that with 206kW/400Nm it only does 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds. Must be pretty heavy. The VW Golf R has less power and still does it in 5.7 seconds.

And yes, these times are based on a 177kWh 6 year old opc vs the 199kwh euro spec Golf R. They should be about the same now. With waaaaay better interior bits and pieces on the opc....and you'll prob spend 15k less on the opc. No contest really.

        no these are current times.

Don't be suprised that the AWD golf R has a better 0-100 times than the FF Astra. Golf kills it on launch.

Actually I stand corrected. The Golf R is 5.2 seconds and the Opel OPC as 6.5 seconds.

Golf R is 4wd, the OPC is Fwd. You'll usually get faster 0-100 times with 4wds (WRX good example). Who cares, these cars aren't meant for that.. The VW Scirocco and Megane RS265 have slower 0-100 times than Golf R and WRX, but will be quicker on pretty much any track and are typically chosen by the critiques.

If you only went by 0-100 you'd buy the WRX, which is tired and old. Rubbery suspension, bad steering feedback, crap brakes, Hyundai interior, etc, etc. Means nothing.

I have never seen anything near 5.2 seconds from a Golf R, where did you get that figure from?

I think "Wheels" or "Motor" tested the Golf r and they got 5.3s if I didn't remember wrong.

Talk about bad research, those are the old opc specs you're looking at. Also, I'm pretty sure Aussie Golf R's are very slightly detuned for our hot weather.

Love the back of it, tidy and not too flashy. Seems quite large for a hot hatch.
