OPEL ASTRA OPC: SYDNEY MOTOR SHOW 2012
Opel Australia has revealed today that its hot Astra OPC hatch will hit the Australian market at $42,990 when it arrives in February.
The news follows confirmation earlier this month of the flagship Astra's return to Australia - it sold here previously under the Holden and HSV banners.
The Astra OPC will sit above the existing GTC model, with a 2.0 litre turbo four delivering 206kW/400Nm, promising a proper performance advantage over the GTC’s 132kW/230Nm 1.6 litre turbo.
Also aligning OPC with such esteemed rivals is a more extroverted styling and interior package that closely silhouettes Opel’s 2010 GTC Paris concept.
As with the production GTC, Astra OPC uses Opel’s HiPerStrut front suspension design, but adds FlexRide multi-mode dampers, a mechanical LSD and Brembo brakes to help deal with the 2.0 litre’s performance.
The Astra OPC has been subjected to a tortuous 10,000km testing program on the 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife, but Opel is making no mention of an official lap time.
In Australia, the Astra OPC will be offered with three option packs: Opel’s AFL+, a premium forward-lighting pack priced at $2000, unique 20-inch alloy wheels for $1000 and Opel’s premium paint priced at $695.
