It's been less than six months since Subaru Australia brought its feisty BRZ sports car into local showrooms in limited numbers, but it's already getting ready to turn up the wick.

At the Australian International Motor Show today, Subaru lifted the lid on its upcoming range of performance parts for the BRZ, along with a competition-ready version of the small RWD sportscar.

For road-going BRZs, Subaru's range of STI-developed parts are mild rather that wild, with the main performance-enhancing products being a set of lower and stiffer coil springs, a low-restriction exhaust muffler, a short-shift gear linkage for manual-equipped BRZs, a front suspension tower brace and a set of 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

Cosmetic parts include a front chin spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and bootlid spoiler. There's also a wheelnut set, STI gearknob, STI push-button starter and unique interior trim highlights.

Pricing for the STI parts has yet to be finalised, but Subaru Australia says they should start to become available from dealers next month.

For the more hardcore BRZ owner, Subaru's other AIMS debut would possibly be of more interest.

Unveiled at Sydney for the first time, the Possum Bourne Motor Sport (PBMS) Subaru BRZ is ready for club-level competition.

Developed by New Zealand-based PBMS, and carrying the name of the late great Kiwi rally ace, each car is built to order, with owners able to customise their BRZ's fit-out from an extensive list of parts.

For those who prefer to select their mods a 'la carte, there are three grades of enhancements available.

The first adds a full rollcage to the BRZ's interior, plus fixed-back Recaro racing seats, six-point Sabelt harnesses, carbon-fibre door panels and an uprated fuel system.

The second PBMS BRZ package gets all of the above and adds Cusco height and damping adjustable coilover suspension, a motorsport-grade electrical system, winged and HANS-compatible Recaro racing seats, AP brakes, an STI handbrake, lightweight Enkei 18-inch wheels and Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R motorsport tyres.

The third PBMS package delves into engine and transmission modifications, but Possum Bourne Motor Sport doesn't say exactly what gets changed at this level.
