Subaru's all-new Forester SUV has been spied once again without a shred of camouflage, offering a revealing look at the midsized family mover.

These latest images, captured by enthusiasts in a Japanese holding yard, offer the first look at the XT trim grade of the new Forester.

The images also follow similar photos of the regular model, along with a handful of leaked brochure images that surfaced last month.

The fourth-generation Forester won't stray far from the looks of its predecessor, smoothing out the profile and picking up styling cues from its newer cousins.

Up front, the Forester wears a new grille and headlights inspired by the new Impreza and Liberty models, while the rear lamps also draw on the look of the Impreza's units.

In XT form, the new SUV gets a sports-styled bumper with a larger air dam, along with tall and narrow side features and chrome-trimmed foglight frames.

The interior of the new Forester follows in the footsteps of the outgoing model, wearing a dash design largely identical to the Impreza hatch and sedan.

In Japan, the Forester's engine options will include a pair of 2.0 litre petrol boxer engines: the Impreza's naturally-aspirated 110kW unit, and the other a turbocharged version producing 205kW for the XT model.

Transmissions will include a CVT automatic and a six-speed manual.

As with the current model, we can likely expect the Australian-delivered Forester to feature Subaru's 2.5 litre 126kW/235Nm boxer, along with the updated 108kW 2.0 litre diesel.

The new Forester is expected to hit the Japanese market in the coming months, and an Australian debut is also set for later this year.
