According to report in British car mag Autocar, Korean carmaker Kia will wheel out its first-ever production electric vehicle in 2014 in the form of the Kia Soul EV.

The second-generation Soul, which has been spotted undergoing testing recently and borrows many of its styling cues from the Track'ster concept, is expected to debut in the first half of 2013.

Engines for the Soul range are believed to include developments of the current car's 1.6 litre petrol, 2.0 litre petrol and 1.6 litre diesel, however if the rumours are correct then an all-electric powertrain will also find its way under the Soul's boxy bonnet.

As for how much an electric Soul would cost, that detail - like all other details surrounding the rumoured Soul EV - is shrouded in mystery.

However, with similarly sized small electric cars currently retailing in Australia from $48,800 (Mitsubishi i-MiEV) to $51,500 (Nissan Leaf), odds are high that it will be anything but cheap.
