Volkswagen has expanded its range of jacked-up passenger cars with the introduction this week of a new Caddy variant for Europe.
The Caddy joins several other current international Volkswagen models in receiving the ‘Cross’ pseudo off-roader treatment, including the Polo, Golf and Touran - with a production Cross Up! also expected.
Enhancements for the Cross Caddy include unpainted front and rear fascia extensions with aluminium inserts, unpainted plastic wheelarch and sill extensions, and aluminium-finish roof rails.
This includes 17 inch alloys, specific leather interior trim, steering wheel and gearknob, LED daytime running lights and ‘Cross Caddy’ badging.
Despite its rugged appearance, the Cross Caddy is mechanically identical to existing Caddy people-movers, and is available internationally with a range of petrol, diesel, natural gas or LPG engines, in both front-wheel or 4MOTION all-wheel drivetrains.
The Cross Caddy also remains available in two wheelbase lengths and five or seven seat configurations.
As with the other Cross models, the Cross Caddy is unlikely to make its way to Australia.
Australian fans of Volkswagen's high-riding options will have a new model to choose from in the coming weeks however, with the local launch of the Passat Alltrack set for October.
