Fans of Daimler's diminutive Smart marque have been teased once more this week, with the unveiling of the Paris-bound Forstars concept.

Evolving the look established with last year's Forvision concept and pushed further with the For-Us ute in January, the Forstars brings its own quirky ideas to the stage.

While much of the styling is shared with the For-Us, the Forstars adds a clever new trick: a bonnet-mounted video projector.

Throwing its image onto the wall in front (or annoying the vehicle ahead of you), the Forstars' projector turns any car park into an impromptu drive-in theatre.

Smart says the Forstars is a very real preview of its future production plans - both the finer styling points of the Fortwo and for a potential larger model (the new Forfour?) - but it's unclear if we can expect the projection project to reach production.

The Forstars is a two-seat concept, which Smart describes as a Sports Utility Coupe (SUC? Oh dear... - Ed), featuring the usual assortment of futuristic interior elements unlikely to ever see the showroom.

In production form, expect Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler to position the Forstars/Forfour as a rival to BMW's MINI Cooper range.

Measuring 3550mm long and 1710mm wide, the Forstars is a good deal larger than the 2690/1560mm Fortwo, riding on a 2470mm wheelbase - compared to 1870mm for the Fortwo.

Power for the Forstars is provided by the same electric motor driving the Brabus-enhanced version of the Fortwo Electric Drive, with power boosted to 60kW and 135Nm.

Test cars based on Renault's Twingo - which will share its next platform with the new Smart Forfour - have recently been spied testing. Expect the new Smart to feature more than a few of the Forstars' styling features.
