UPDATE: Official details released.

Citroen's fabric-topped 'convertible-cabrio' DS3 hatch has been given an online unveiling this week, ahead of next month's Paris Motor Show debut.

The new variant, dubbed simply DS3 Cabrio, skips the usual full-cabriolet approach and features instead a concertina-style blind.

Essentially a giant open-back sunroof similar to Fiat's 500C, the retractable fabric roof extends to the base of the C-pillars.

The new roof continues the DS3's personalisation theme, with a range of colours and patterns available to buyers.

Citroen says the powered roof takes just 16 seconds to close, and operation of the roof is possible at speeds up to 120km/h.

A button on the ceiling console opens the roof to three positions: intermediate, horizontal and total.

Engine details for the new model are still to be revealed, but we can likely expect the open-top DS3's mechanical package to mirror the features of the regular hatch.

Most of the bodywork, including the doors and windows, carry through unchanged. The Cabrio's extra bracing and mechanical systems have increased weight by just 25kg - around 70kg lighter than many of the car's convertible rivals.

Watch for more details to come out of the Paris Motor Show next month.
