Lamborghini’s upcoming Gallardo replacement looks set to shed some of the current model variations, according to a new report.
US mag Car and Driver reports that while the new model will continue with hardtop and Spyder bodystyles, fewer permutations of spec level and drivetrain choice will be offered.
Lamborghini’s website currently lists six different Gallardo variations, with lightweight, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions available in both hardtop and Spyder bodystyles.
Several of these variations also come with a choice of either H-pattern or robotised e-Gear transmissions.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann has already confirmed there will be no H-pattern transmission option in future, likely leaving a new dual-clutch automatic as the only transmission choice.
Further simplification could include a hardtop-only lightweight model, or Spyder variants available in rear-wheel drive only.
Lamborghini’s characteristic plethora of limited edition versions is likely to continue however, though not until further into the new model’s life.
This secret is likely to remain until the new model officially surfaces some time in 2014.
