2013 Mitsubishi ASX On Sale In Australia

Mitsubishi's updated ASX small SUV, revealed in New York earlier this year, is now on sale in Australia.

Largely a modest styling update, the 2013 model-year ASX also benefits from a revised CVT automatic transmission and the addition of a new two-wheel-drive Aspire variant.

On the styling front, the small SUV gets a new grille - chrome trimmed on higher-spec models - darkened headlights and a smoothed-out bumper with larger foglight bezels, while the rear ends gets a restyled bumper and a darker tint to the tail-light lens.

The design of the interior space remains unchanged, although new trim colours and chrome highlights have been added.

Mitsubishi says the 2013 ASX benefits from a revised rear suspension package, and the CVT automatic has been tweaked for a smoother drive experience.

The ASX's engine line-up remains unchanged, with a 2.0 litre four-cylinder paired with a five-speed manual or the updated CVT, while the 1.8 litre diesel is matched with a six-speed manual.

The all-wheel-drive Aspire model is powered by the 110kW/300Nm 1.8 litre diesel, with fuel consumption listed at 5.7 l/100km.

In two-wheel-drive form, the ASX is driven by the 110kW/197Nm 2.0 litre engine, with fuel use rated at 7.9 l/100km with the CVT and and 7.7 l/100km with the manual.

Towing capacity for the petrol model grows to 1300kg, and the diesel models to 1400kg.

A new audio system in the 2WD ASX adds CD and i-Pod compatibility, and a new audio display, available on 2WD and 4WD Aspire models, features a 6.1 inch full-colour touch display, iPod control and rear view camera with parking reference lines.

The new 2WD Aspire model gets 17-inch alloy whels, chromed exhaust tip, front foglights, chrome highlights, leather seats, heated front seats and a powered driver's seat, leather-look door trim and tinted rear windows.

The ASX range carries a five-star ANCAP safety rating, and standard features include ASTC (Active Stability Control with Traction Control), Hill Start Control system, ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist, and seven airbags, including driver and passenger front, side and curtain, and driver knee airbag.
