BMW's sponsorship of the 2012 London Olympics, huge though it is, is not the only carmaker tie-up at this year's games.

Compatriot Audi is also working in London, acting as the official partner of the National Paralympic Committee Germany, and Germany's wider Sports Confederation.

In celebration of the partnership, the prestige carmaker has revealed a simple new one-off makeover for its A1 e-tron range-extended electric hatch.

Decked out in Germany's national colours, the A1 e-tron Germany Olympic Team Edition gets a number of yellow, red and black highlights, along with black-backed headlights and a patriotic interior makeover.

While this example is a one-off showcar, Audi has supplied 60 A1 e-tron cars for the games, where they are being used as a shuttle service between the MS Deutschland cruise ship and the German House.

The A1 e-tron is powered by a unique hybrid powertrain that pairs a 245cc range-extending rotary engine with a 45kW/150Nm electric motor that can boost output to 75kW and 240Nm when needed.

Combined with a 12kWh lithium-ion battery pack, Audi promises a 0-100km/h time of around 10 sconds, and a top speed of 120km/h. Audi pegs the car's fuel economy at around 1.9 l/100km.
