The greyed-out Martini livery shown in recent Porsche 918 prototype photos is about to get a little more lively. The carmaker has revealed this week that it will offer the famous logo and stripes to buyers of the new hybrid supercar.

Porsche says it has secured the deal with Bacardi and Company Limited, which has represented the famous vermouth label since their 1992 merger.

While the car has yet to be unveiled in production form, Porsche has released a series of new Martini-emblazoned 918 photos to whet buyer appetites.

Racing fans will recall the Porsche and Martini racing relationship, with the brand acting as an official sponsor of Porsche's race program in the 70s.

The partnership's victories included finishing first overall at Targa-Florio in 1973, winning the Sports Car World Championship in 1976 and overall victories at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1976 and 1977.

The German brand has not been especially secretive with its new 918, already revealing a number of technical details, plenty of promotional photos, and its price: €645,000 - around AU$756,025.

Porsche has also confirmed that the production 918 will utilise a V8 petrol engine displacing more than 4.0 litres, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electric motor at each axle.

Combined, Porsche claims the system will produce upwards of 575kW, while consuming as little as 3.0 l/100km - thanks largely to the electric motors, which may also allow around 25km of electric-only driving.

The 918 is expected to list a scorching 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h, although Porsche stresses that as far as production specification goes, these figures are still to be confirmed.

This week, the carmaker has confirmed it is moving into the next phase of testing at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit, where it is aiming for a lap time quicker than 7m22s - 10 seconds faster than its former hero car, the Carrera GT.
