Just hours after a telling new teaser image surfaced online, Mazda has released a trio of revealing new photos for its new 2013 Mazda6 family sedan.

Following a series of shadowy teaser videos released over the past month, this new image shows that most of the sharp Takeri concept's styling will carry over into the next Mazda6.

There are differences, of course. The Takeri's complex headlight internals have been swapped for a conventional lens and projector arrangement, and a BMW-like 'halo' LED light ring is also featured.

The grille of the new car is a smidge shorter top-to-bottom, the metal garnish along the grille and headlights has been dialled back a little, and the front bumper - at least on this variant - also takes on a less aggressive look.

All said, the new Mazda6, like its CX-5 SUV stablemate, remains loyal to its concept roots. (A rare enough thing; take the production Suzuki Kizashi and its concept progenitor for example.)

The release of the new images follow spy photos of a lightly-camouflaged 2013 Mazda6 Touring wagon, revealing the car in its final form. Previous test cars had used the body of the current-generation Mazda6.

Technologies in the new Mazda6 will include the carmaker's new SkyActiv engines, transmissions and lightweight construction techniques, along with a new i-ELOOP capacitor-based kinetic energy regenerative braking system.

The Mazda6 that will be shown in Moscow will be a Russian-spec sedan, equipped with a direct-injection SkyActiv-G 2.0 petrol engine and six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission.

The 2013 Mazda6 will be unveiled at September's Moscow Motor Show. Watch for an Australian debut to occur early in 2013.
