Tthe arrival of the Aircross also marks Citroen's first all-wheel-drive offering in Australia.
Kicking off at $31,990 (plus on-roads), the Aircross is positioned just $500 higher than the equivalent model in the line-up of its French compatriot and platform mate, the recently-launched Peugeot 4008 SUV,
Like the 4008, the C4 Aircross is built on an extensively modified version of the Mitsubishi ASX platform. Unlike Peugeot's Outlander-based 4007 however, the 4008 and Aircross 'twins' share very little externally with their Mitsubishi donor.
Drawing design cues from both its (mechanically unrelated) C4 namesake and the upmarket DS4, the Aircross gets Citroen's familiar new styling tricks.
In Australia, the C4 Aircross is offered exclusively with a 2.0 litre petrol engine a CVT automatic transmission.
Producing 110kW at 6000rpm and 197Nm of torque at 4200rpm, with fuel consumption listed at 7.9 l/100km. With the optional $2000 all-wheel-drive package, fuel consumption climbs to 8.1 l/100km.
Citroen says the C4 Aircross will accelerate to 100km/h from standstill in 10.2 seconds in front-wheel-drive form, and 10.9 seconds with the all-wheel-drive version.
The Aircross measures 4341mm long, 1799mm wide and 1625mm tall, riding on a 2670mm wheelbase.
Citroen quotes a rear storage capacity of 416 litres with the rear seats in their upright position, and 1193 litres with the seats laid flat.
Inside, there's cruise control, automatic climate control, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth/USB/aux audio connectivity, and six speakers.
The C4 Aircross is not available with a touchscreen system or satellite navigation.
Optional extras include a $1500 panoramic glass roof, $1500 xenon headlights and $2000 leather trim. There is also pearl black paint for $800 and pearl white for $1200.
Standard safety features include seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, driver's knee), electronic stability control and rear parking sensors.
