Rolls-Royce's baby Ghost is set to evolve into the heavily disguised coupe seen here, believed to be known as the Corniche.

While the car spied here teases what looks like the front-end of the Ghost bolted to the rump of a Ford Mustang, the car is shorter and lower than the sedan on which it is based.

The extra doorhandles are there to make us think it's a four door, but the space behind the front door's shutline is so small it wouldn't fit the RX-8's suicide door.

Rolls-Royce owner BMW has filed a trademark application for the Corniche name, so the coupe's appearance in the lenses of spy cameras adds meat to the bones of the rumour.

Early reports have suggested that the familiar 420kW 6.6 litre twin-turbo V12 engine would find its way into the Corniche without any significant tweaks.

Now, a new report by British magazine Autocar claims Rolls is working to boost the engine's output to around 460kW, with a view to making it the brand's quickest-ever model.

If the report is accurate, we could potentially expect the two-tonne-or-so Corniche to hit 100km/h in 4.5 to 5.0 seconds.

The eight speed auto should also be along for the ride, with everything protected from the outside world by the incredibly comfortable air suspension.

The Ghost Coupe/Corniche is expected to begin wafting down roads in 2014 and we'll be keeping a close eye on developments.
