Jaguar is on the campaign trail with its upcoming F-Type roadster. Apart from the finer points of its styling, there's already little the carmaker hasn't told us about the car.
A new teaser video released this week doesn't say much, but it does make a lovely noise.
Created to build the buzz about the new F-Type's supercharged V6, the video lets loose a few basic details and some computer animated renderings of the unit itself.
The engine will come in two flavours, 340hp (248kW) and 380hp (278kW), and will join a V8 in the F-Type range.
Featuring the Jaguar V8's direct-injection, variable valve timing and a lot of aluminium, Jaguar says the engine "efficiently produces high specific output". Translation: it may be small, but it packs a lot of punch.
The supercharger is a Rootes twin-vortex supercharger, as opposed to the Eaton blower used in the XFR's V8.
The 250kW six is also expected to slip in to the XF and XJ, at least for Europe. If fitted, the supercharged V6 would complete the line-up of refreshed engines for the XF, sitting above the new 2.0 litre turbo four and 2.2 litre diesel.
The six would also be a lot lighter on fuel than the 4.2 litre V8, weigh less and be mated to the new eight-speed transmission, so the power deficit won't be so noticeable.
We'll know a lot more about the F-Type and its engines as the release of the car draws nearer. Meanwhile, Jaguar will continue to drip feed us with information about its new baby to keep us interested.
