Puritalia's 427 sports car has lifted its skirts just a little in a teaser image to promote its July 1 unveiling.

Set for production in 2013 and inspired by the legendary Shelby Cobra, the 427 is described as a mix of Italian design and American muscle.

Cobra fans will spot the side-mounted exhausts, gaping air intake and the headlights set into the front bodywork.

The Puritalia is powered by a 327kW V8, and a 445kW super-charged version is also rumoured.

With the V8 bolted into an aluminium chassis and supposedly tipping the scales at less than a tonne, the 427 should move pretty quickly. Taming that kind of power-to-weight ratio will be an achievement in itself for the start-up Italian company.

The 427 will debut just over a month after the death of the Carroll Shelby, the man who slotted the V8 in the AC in the first place.

Little else is known about the car, or the company for that matter. We'll have to wait another month to see if a new Italian legend is born.
