Volvo Car Corporation will partner with Japanese giant Mitsubishi Electric to produce a new generation of infotainment systems, the Swedish carmaker announced today.
Forming part of Volvo's new Sensus brand, the central module and infotainment system hardware will be manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric.
The new navigation, audio-visual, connectivity and cabin control systems will be developed in Sweden at Mitsubishi Electric Automotive Europe's Gothenburg technical centre.
“We are very happy to have Mitsubishi Electric Corporation as a partner. Their world-leading knowledge and experience will bring the infotainment system in our cars up to an entirely new level," Volvo boss Stefan Jacoby said.
The brand's familiar floating centre console won't be disappearing either; the new interface will be designed to retain the same look and feel of the current range (with the usual styling enhancements).
Volvo has yet to announce which vehicles will feature the new technology, but with the new V40 hatch already on its way, it is likely that the next-generation XC90 SUV and the S80's successor will be the first to debut the system.
