Mercedes-Benz and its AMG powerhaus are getting into the glamorous spirit of the Cannes Film Festival by supplying a fleet of gold shuttle vehicles and show cars.

Odd as that sounds on the surface, the marketing stunt forms part of the 65th annivesary celebrations for the golden Palme d'Or, the festival's highest honour.

Mercedes' performance brand is also co-sponsoring the Cinema Against AIDS Gala, and a gold SL 65 AMG, celebrating AMG's 45th anniversary, is also on display. Coincidentally, it is also the SL's 60th anniversary.

But wait, there's more. AMG is also sponsoring Le Club by Albane at the JW Marriott, and the IWC Filmmakers Dinner at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

For both events, guests will be carried by golden AMG cars to the red carpet, and test drives along the French Riviera's spectacular roads are also on offer.

AMG Mercs will be dotted around various venues during Festival week, including at the Intercontinental Hotel where an SL 63 AMG will be displayed in a film set constructed for the event.
