Renault Clio RS Gets Its Leather On

Mike Stevens | May 4, 2012

Renault Australia has upgraded standard equipment for its Clio RS hot hatch, stitching leather trim to all new 2012 model-year cars.

The leather-wrapped sports seats are joined by a white speedometer face and red stitching on the steering wheel, replacing the yellow face and stitching of previous models.

An updated palette sees Alien Green and Mercury Grey wiped from the options list, leaving Liquid Yellow, Toro Red, Racing Blue and Black.

Mechnically, the 2012 model-year Clio RS remains unchanged, with power delivered by a 147.5kW/215Nm naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre engine, sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

As before, Renault promises a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds for the feisty hatch, with fuel consumption figures listed at 8.2 l/100km on the combined cycle.

2013 Clio; 2014 Clio RS?

For buyers waiting for an all-new Clio RS, you may not have long to wait: the 2013 Clio is expected to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in September, and a performance flagship should not be far behind.

Renault, and other French brands, always seem to do this. Release the version with great inclusions at the end of their model life (btw - a car with this sort of price tag should always have had leather!!!) Is it because they import them from countries that wouldn't touch them with the impending model promising to be much better. And with it always being sooooooo long after the European release before we get them, and when we do, the depreciation is something you want to bash your head against a brick wall about. Trust me, I know, I loved my RS Clio, but it's future value after less than 4 years was a shocker
