Subaru has released a new video that offers a brief overview of the steps that led to the launch of its BRZ coupe.

The video sees the car's engineers describing the decisions, sacrifices and advancements made in the development of the BRZ and its Toyota 86 twin.

The mini-documentary details the benefits of the car's low centre of gravity, and the finer points of the new and re-developed components used in its design.

The clip also describes advances made with the brand-new engine, which started life as the well-known FB and became the FA engine that powers the BRZ and 86 cars.

The release of the video follows confirmation late last year that the BRZ will make its way to Australia in the coming months, entering as the first local Subaru without all-wheel-drive since 1997.

BRZ In Brief

The BRZ's 2.0 litre direct-injected boxer engine delivers 147kW at 7000rpm and 205Nm of torque at 6600rpm.

The naturally-aspirated engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

In Australia, the BRZ will face off against its co-developed Toyota twin, the 86 coupe, pricing and local specifications for either model have yet to be revealed.

The arrival of the BRZ is expected to have minimal impact on WRX sales, despite the fact that there is no new model expected for some time.
