According to the UK's Autocar magazine, Audi is planning to unveil the new performer in Paris next month, completing the line-up - at least until the next RS 3 appears.
Recent spy photos reveal that the new S3 is right around the next corner, with final shakedown testing now underway.
These images follow the unveiling earlier this year of the all-new A3, which is set to make its Australian debut in the coming year.
While this test mule is wearing the body-kit and wheels of the regular 132kW sports model, the extra pair of exhaust tips in the rear bumper make it clear that we are looking at the new S3.
What we'll find under the bonnet of the new S3 has yet to be revealed, although reports out of Europe suggest a brand-new 2.0 litre engine with around 210kW on offer.
That's only a little over 10kW more powerful than the European version of the 2.0 litre engine powering the current S3 (and Golf R), but with a lighter body into the deal, the new model is likely to deliver more bang for your buck.
Expect the new engine to be mated to both a six-speed manual transmission and Audi's seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic.
Whether we'll see the S3 grade offered with the upcoming five-door (as with the current model) and sedan variants remains uncler.
