The all-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has been given an early unveiling this week, thanks to a set of leaked images that have surfaced online just days out from its official unveiling.

The new GL draws on the styling themes from the brand's newest models, featuring the latest evolution of Merc's upright grille and wave-topped headlights.

Along the side, the new GL gets a more sculptured shape, adding sharpened character lines, an up-kicked C-pillar and the large 'pontoon' rear guards that started with the current E-Class.

The rear-end takes on a wider look, helped by the broader lights that reach into the tailgate, and a rear bumper that appears shorter top-to-bottom than on its predecessor.

Inside, the new GL-Class features a dash and door design that is largely identical to its smaller M-Class stablemate, with a large centre stack tapering off into a narrow glove console.

Technical details for the new GL-Class have yet to be revealed, but engine options are expected to include Mercedes' new direct-injected V6 and V8 engines - in the case of the AMG variant, that should included the new 5.5 litre twin-turbo V8.

In Australia, the current-generation GL-Class is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 turbo-diesel producing 165kW and 510Nm of torque, and a 285kW/530Nm 5.5 litre petrol V8.
