"We've still got it" may be the motto of Toyota's display at next month's New York Auto Show, with its Scion FR-S coupe to be accompanied by a sleek new sedan concept.

Teased here by a single piece of cropped artwork, the concept is expected to preview the new Avalon, a nameplate not seen in Australia since the already-old first-generation model bombed out last decade.

Replaced in Australia by the Camry-based Aurion (you'll see the new Aurion here next month), the Avalon continued as Toyota's large sedan in the US, with the third-generation model launched in 2005.

If the artwork shown here is anything to go by, Toyota's US-market retiree-hauler is on track for an image makeover, chasing the trendy four-door coupe look and perhaps delivering the brand's sharpest new model yet.

Toyota remains tight-lipped on details for the new car, although it is likely that with the new Aurion already locked in, there is little space for another shake of the Avalon in the local market.

Watch for the new Avalon to debut in concept form at the New York Auto Show on April 5 (April 6, Australian time).
