2013 Opel Astra Sedan Spied With New Facelift

Peter Anderson | Mar 27, 2012

GM's European arm Opel, soon to reach our own shores, has been caught testing the sedan variant of its Astra small car.

Wearing the 2013 facelift's snout from the hatchback, and with a disguise merely covering the booted rear end, the Astra sedan is expected in European showrooms later this year.

As for the facelift that will appear across the Astra line-up, the revisions appear to be limited to a new bumper and grille, and lightly modified headlights.

There appears to be little, if any, change forward of the B-pillars with what looks like a clean transformation at the back, reminiscent of the rear end of the five-door Insignia.

Even with the thin disguise, it's clear the rear deck will be very narrow, lending the sedan a coupe-like rear profile.

The sedan joins the five door hatch, Sport Tourer wagon and the three door GTC variants and will most likely be available with most of the engines offered in the hatch and tourer versions.

Whether the sedan will reach Australia is unclear, but the Chinese market's love for sedans may see the sedan on the roads there.

Opel's Australian plans include the Astra in in its current five- and three-door hatch forms, but the sedan is unlikely to be ready for the brand's Australian launch.

The Astra will spearhead Opel's line-up alongside the Vectra-sized Insignia and tiny Corsa.
