Speak of the canine... Just days after TMR published spy photos of Kia's upcoming K9 rear-wheel-drive flagship, new artwork has been released that offers a first look at the new car.
Looking like the lovechild of a Quattroporte and the new 5 Series (a strong pairing by any measure), Kia's chief designer Peter Schreyer has delivered a tried-and-true luxury style for the brand's top-shelf model.
“Our all-new flagship sedan integrates all of our key capabilities such as design, performance, high-tech features and infotainment into one striking model,“ Soon-Nam Lee, Kia’s Director of the Overseas Marketing Group, said.
For now, the car shown here is known only as the KH, and it remains unclear if the awkward K9 name will ever make it to market.
Details for the new model have not been released, although it is likely that Hyundai's Genesis luxury sedan will donate its platform, along with its V6 and V8 powertrains, to the new Kia.
If that's the case, the new large sedan will become the most powerful model ever offered by Kia, delivering 248kW in 3.8 litre V6 form and 320kW with the 5.0 litre V8.
Hyundai's eight-speed automatic transmission could be on the cards, however it is possible that the K9 will debut with the company's new 10-speed auto, understood to be in develpment right now.
Don't hold your breath for this one in Australia however. With the current Genesis platform available in left-hand-drive only, local availability is off the table... certainly for the moment.
It is confirmed however that we'll see the next-generation Genesis here, so the K9 could be a starter in its second iteration.
