As many other high-end performance cars start to embrace turbochargers, Audi is reportedly planning to defy the turbo trend and keep the next incarnation of its R8 supercar naturally aspirated.
The next generation of R8 is due within a couple of years, and British mag Autocar reports that the current R8's 4.2 litre V8 and 5.2 litre V10 will receive minor upgrades to boost power to 336kW and 410kW, respectively.
A high-output R8 GT version is also rumoured, with an expected power output of around 432kW.
The 2014 Audi R8 will continue to share its architecture with the Lamborghini Gallardo's replacement, and will reportedly be constructed out of a mixture of carbon fibre and aluminium.
The body-in-white will supposedly weigh as little as 198kg in Audi configuration, and the overall kerb weight is expected to be around 1500kg - 60kg lighter than the current alloy-chassis R8.
Reportedly code-named AU724 within Audi, the next-gen R8 is expected to arrive sometime in 2014; which would give the current R8 a relatively long lifespan of eight years.
To keep the model fresh until the arrival of its all-new replacement, a facelifted R8 range is expected to debut at this year's Moscow Motor Show in August.
