2013 Porsche Cayman Spied Testing

Mike Stevens | May 18, 2012

The hardtop twin to Porsche's new Boxster has been spied testing in Northern Europe this week.

Like its predecessor, the new Cayman will enter as a coupe version of the topless Boxster, with little separating the two beneath the skin, including a longer wheelbase, a wider track and shorter overhangs at each end.

Expect the new Boxster's 198kW 2.7 litre and 235kW 3.4 litre engines to star here, along with the same Cayman and Cayman S variants.

In Boxster form, the engines deliver 0-100km/h times of 5.7 seconds for the regular model, and 5.0 seconds flat for the S.

The new Cayman is likely to appear in the coming months, with September's Frankfurt Motor Show its most likely destination. Watch for an Australian debut in late 2012 or early 2013.

They will need to do something special, Wheels just declared the Toyota FT86 rolled the Cayman as an all round performer. To topple the chassis balance king like that is amazing. The only issue with the FT86 is you need aftermarket mods to get any speed out of it.

Mate, Wheels would... (this comment has been partially deleted and edited: TMR Team).

But as for the 86, it's not exactly slow.

More powerful would be nice, sure, but that'd demand a higher price. Goes against the point of the car (and the spirit of its origins).

Two engine grades would have been nice, but who knows, we may yet see a turbo- or super-charged model in the future.
