Volvo Australia has added the high-performance Polestar variant to the local S60 line-up, entering as an extremely limited-edition flagship model.
Just 50 of the S60 Polestar cars are available, priced at $82,990 (plus on-roads). That's $10,000 more than the 224kW T6 R-Design, the regular S60 range's top-shelf offering.
For the extra clams, you get an additional 18kW and 40Nm of torque for a total 242kW and 480Nm. Volvo says the S60 Polestar is good for a 0-100km/h dash in 5.8 seconds, compared to the T6 R-Design's 6.1 second run.
Fuel consumption and carbon emissions remain unchanged from the T6, listing 10.2 l/100km and 243g/km respectively.
As the name implies, the hardcore S60 was developed by Volvo's racing partner Polestar, known for its tuned European-market offerings and its Swedish Touring Car Championship racing Volvo C30.
Additional bits were put together by tuning house Heico Sportiv, including the S60 Polestar's 19-inch alloy wheels, quad-exhaust system and rear diffuser.
Inside, the S60 Polestar adds sports seats with stiffer bolstering, along with a leather-clad three-spoke steering wheel, blue-ringed instruments and aluminium-ridged pedals.
While the Polestar's performance tweaks can likely be achieved with aftermarket goodies for less than the $10,000 premium you'll pay here, the official package gives you a three-year unlimited kilometre warranty - and a wee bit of exclusivity, thanks to that build plaque in the cabin.
